On May 6, 1971, CHAMCO SAMS CHAPTER was organized as a Good Sam Chapter, and was chartered as the second Chapter in the State of Illinois on May 17, with 14 members. The first officers were: Ray Dalbey, President; Don Carnes, Vice-President; Louise Lewis, Secretary-Treasurer; and Mel Lewis, Wagonmaster.
Throughout the years, several members of Chamco Sams Chapter has served as State Officers. At this time (2015), we have 3 members serving as State Officers–Asst. State Director, Wayne Wolf; State Treasurer, Robert Myers; and Chaplain, Carolyn Schaefer.
Each Year, Chamco Sams Chapter vote to donate to a Charity. In 2013, 2015 & 2016, we donated to Dogs for the Deaf that rescues dogs for their programs from animal shelters. After professional training, the dogs are placed with people with a variety of disabilities and challenges including hearing loss and deafness.
In 2014, 2015 & 2016, we donated to Salt & Light a ministry serving families and individuals in Champaign County who are at or below the poverty line.
In June of 2012 and 2014, Chamco Sams Chapter hosted the Illinois Good Sam State Meetings at Prairie Pines Campground in Rantoul, Il. We served lunch for the meeting and in the evening hosted a potluck dinner.
